Other features include the mandatory ‘Halo’ cockpit protection system, the re-profiled engine cover and what appears to be a more reliable 1.6-liter turbocharged V6 power unit, which performed very well on the dyno in Viry- Ch\u00e2tillon. This year, teams are only allowed to utilize a total of three power units, for the 21-race calendar.<\/p>\n

The aesthetic of the R.S.18 is very dynamic, as the mixture of black and yellow delivers a powerful contrast. When viewed only from the front, the car actually appears to be mostly yellow, however, from the side, it’s the other way around, boasting a mostly black theme. Overall, it’s very Borussia Dortmund-ish, for any soccer fans out there.<\/p>\n

“Over the past year I’ve seen progression in many areas: ninth to sixth in the standings – in many races we were often the fourth fastest team on the grid. This is a testament to our drive, commitment and adherence to a very ambitious plan. It was a quantified progression towards what we want to become and challenging the top teams,” stated team boss Cyril Abiteboul.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, 30-year old Nico Hulkenberg said that he can’t wait to get behind the wheel of the R.S.18.<\/p>\n

“We’re in a good position. For this year we want to build on the good platform of last season. 2017 was about bedding in, now I want to get ready to go. I get a good feeling, we have put the work in over the winter and hard work usually pays off. I’m eager to get out there. Put me in the car.”<\/p>\n

Hulkenberg, together with his new teammate Carlos Sainz, will get to know the car during the first Barcelona tests, scheduled to take place between February 26 and March 1st.<\/p>\n
