Dubbing 2018 as the year of the 8, the company confirmed the coupe and convertible will be built at the Dingolfing plant and become a “central beacon of the BMW model offensive in the luxury segment.” Of course, the 8-Series isn’t the only model with an eight in its name as the Landshut plant will build the i8 Coupe and Roadster.<\/p>\n
Getting back to the 8-Series, this particular coupe is lightly camouflaged and has a large twin kidney grille that is flanked by laser headlights. Other notable styling features include a double bubble roof, hidden windshield wipers and contrasting mirror caps. We can also see stylish two-tone wheels which are backed up by a high-performance braking system with blue calipers.<\/p>\n
While the latest images still leave a lot to the imagination, a couple of undisguised photos surfaced last month and revealed the car will remain relatively faithful to 8-Series concept. However, the styling has been toned down for production.<\/p>\n
BMW has been tight-lipped about specifications but the automaker recently revealed the model is undergoing high-speed testing ahead of its launch later this year. BMW research and development boss, Klaus Frohlich, also stated “Our customers and fans can look forward to a genuine sports car” as the “dynamics values already achieved are absolutely impressive.”<\/p>\n
Under the hood, we can expect an assortment of familiar engines including a 4.4-liter TwinPower Turbo V8 that produces around 445 hp (331 kW). There will also be a high-performance M8 with at least 600 hp (447 kW).<\/p>\n
