To make things more interesting, the automaker got the car sideways, proving that despite having a fully electric powertrain, it’s not boring to drive.

This prototype is also more camera-friendly, after dropping some of the camouflage and plastic cladding that prevented us from seeing it better last year. However, it’s apparently only a few hours away from its official presentation at the Geneva Motor Show, when the final vinyl wrap will be removed as well.

Joining Smart’s EQ models, the ForTwo and ForFour Nightsky Edition in Switzerland, the Mercedes-Benz EQ C is about the size of the GLC. It uses an electric powertrain that’s said to combine two electric motors, probably one on each axle to provide it with all-wheel drive, backed up by a battery pack.

The Generation EQ concept that previewed it in 2016 used a pair of electric motors too, rated at 402hp and 700Nm (516lb-ft) of torque, and a 70kWh battery.

If that’s the recipe, the Mercedes EQ C might be able to travel for up to 500km (310miles) in between charges, thus making it suitable for much more than a daily commute.

VIDEO

Shot in Sweden, at temperatures less than 35 degrees Celsius (-31 Fahrenheit), the zero-emission SUV is being shown, in prototype form, being pushed hard on snow and ice.
