The Cars.co.za Consumer Awards have become one of the most anticipated annual industry events, each year bringing a fresher and bigger approach to celebrating the motoring industry and the motoring consumer.<\/p>\n

The 2020 event, which was held on Thursday 6 February at Kyalami International Grand Prix Circuit and Convention Centre and was attended by a host of local celebrities, industry leaders and media, was no different, providing an energetic and slick multimedia experience.<\/p>\n

Star-studded event <\/strong><\/p>\n

South African rap sensation Cassper Nyovest opened the ceremony, which boasted a poised and powerful Bonang as host, with his performance of his hit track Gusheshe<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Some of the co-hosts and attendees included Maps Maponyane, Lalla Hirayama, Ms Cosmo and Nico Panagio. <\/p>\n

How does it work?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

The #CarsAwards are designed to highlight the best local products and brands in the local market. A total of 17 brands and 39 cars were represented as finalists across 13 categories.<\/p>\n

Each of these finalists were put through a rigorous testing process by 21 judges across various disciplines, who evaluate the finalists in a variety of testing scenarios.<\/p>\n

Their scores represent 50% of the final score with the other half being scored by South African consumers and vehicle owners across the country who also give their feedback. A percentage score out of 100 is then tallied and these scores make up the final total.<\/p>\n

\n

It\u2019s what the Cars.co.za Experience manager Hannes Oosthuizen refers to as the \u201cbest and most relevant guide for passenger vehicle buyers\u201d.<\/p>\n

Taking home six category awards, it was no surprise that Volkswagen won the coveted Brand of the Year Award. This award is solely reliant on consumers having their say.<\/p>\n

It is the result of more than 13 000 owners who voted Volkswagen as their brand of choice in terms of ownership, service, perceived brand credibility and value.<\/p>\n

It is the first time that VW has won this award and its testament to a raft of new products that have struck a good chord with the market. Entrants like the T-Cross have certainly ruffled feathers and the tried-and-trusted Polo Vivo and Polo continue to dominate the sales charts. <\/p>\n

Wesbank paints tentative but tenacious picture of economy<\/strong><\/p>\n

As the title sponsor of the #CarsAwards, Wesbank was well represented at this year\u2019s event with the opening and closing remarks coming from CEO Chris de Kock and executive head of sales and marketing Ghana Msibi respectively.<\/p>\n

\n

The Wesbank team unpacked their predictions for the next year, estimating another decline in the market, yet remaining a strong and “healthy” industry. <\/p>\n
