Andrea Iannone is confident he will be exonerated with his B sample, telling his fans that he was “surprised” by FIM’s announcement that he failed a drug test.<\/p>\n

Iannone ‘provisionally suspended’ by FIM<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Aprilia rider was provisionally suspended by the Federation Internationale de Motocyclisme, FIM, earlier this week after testing positive for anabolic steroids.<\/p>\n

FIM announced that Iannone was tested at the Malaysian round of the 2019 MotoGP Championship with WADA returning a positive finding.<\/p>\n

As such the Italian was immediately suspended, barred from participating in any motorcycling competition or activity until further notice.<\/p>\n

The FIM statement read: ‘The decision to provisionally suspend Mr Andrea Iannone was mandatory following the receipt of a report from the WADA accredited laboratory in Kreischa b. Dresden (Germany) indicating an Adverse Analytical Finding of a non-specified substance under Section 1.1.a) Exogenous Anabolic Androgenic Steroids (AAS) of the 2019 Prohibited List, in a urine sample collected from him at an in-competition test carried out by the FIM at the round of the FIM Grand Prix World Championship held in Sepang, Malaysia on 3 November 2019.’<\/p>\n

He faces a four-year ban from the sport if the findings are confirmed, effectively ending the 30-year-old’s racing career.<\/p>\n

He does, however, have the right to request an analysis of a second ‘B’ sample, which was taken at the same event.<\/p>\n

Iannone ‘totally relaxed’ about outcome<\/strong><\/p>\n

Despite the heavy consequences facing Iannone, the Italian has told his fans that he is not worried about the outcome.<\/p>\n

Although he was surprised to hear of the failed test, he believes he will be exonerated with his ‘B’ sample.<\/p>\n

“I’m totally relaxed and I want to reassure my fans and Aprilia Racing,” he said.<\/p>\n

“I am open to any counter analysis in a matter that surprises me, also because – at the moment – I have not received any official communication.<\/p>\n

“Over the years, and also this season, I have undergone continuous checks, obviously always proving to be negative, which is why I have every confidence in the positive conclusion of this affair.”<\/p>\n

Under MotoGP rules, three riders are tested at every event, one from the top-three finishers while the other two are drawn at random.<\/p>\n
